I have always been passionate about designing and making meaningful gifts and keepsakes and was very fortunate to able to start my own business. Lauren Nicole Gifts (name after my niece) was started in 2004 and was a great way for me to have my own business, but still move around as an Army wife. My husband recently retired from the Army and we are now permanently located in Ouray, Colorado

Ready for a Marathon!

Well, not quite yet! I would really love to run a 5K sometime next year. Today was a big day, I ran 3 miles on the tread mill without using an inhaler. I have never run 3 miles at one time in my whole life. I have asthma and it gets really hard to control, especially at age 21(+19). I had to start out 8 months ago by walking two blocks without wheezing and then slowly build up to running. I would love to run in a marathon that supports research for kids with asthma.

Does anyone have any good running or work out advice??

Good for you!!! I talk about running a lot on my blog...I am a beginning runner as well, I can make it about 3 miles and just ran my first 5k on Saturday (which didn't turn out so fabulous, but oh well!).

My best advice: take it slow!

Great job!!!! The best advice I got when I started running is to keep it up! If you can motivate yourself to go even for a few minutes each day it will really help your strength and stamina!

I am also very slowly working towards running a marathon one day. My strategy is to just build up the mileage slowly. Great job with the 3 miles! You're doing well :)

Great job!!!

Best advice I can give you....don't ever give up. Invest in a really good pair of shoes, and replace them frequently most recommend every 300-500 miles.

Congrats! I've just started running 5K's too and LOVE IT! Such a good stress reliever and I really like the race atmosphere even if I'm not a serious competitor. I've found that just running as much as I can is what has helped me the most. I usually run after work so I try to have a light afternoon snack to make sure I have energy. Good Luck :)
