I have always been passionate about designing and making meaningful gifts and keepsakes and was very fortunate to able to start my own business. Lauren Nicole Gifts (name after my niece) was started in 2004 and was a great way for me to have my own business, but still move around as an Army wife. My husband recently retired from the Army and we are now permanently located in Ouray, Colorado

Sewing Book Giveaway - ends 11-5-09

I am still SLOWLY cleaning out my workshop bookcases and I have another book for a giveaway. It is called "Sew Darn Cute" and has lots of neat projects in it. To enter just leave a comment on this post letting me know what the first thing you ever made was and if you still have it. The giveway ends at midnight on Thursday 11-5-09 and I will draw a winner on Friday 11-6-09. My first project was a skirt with yellow ducks all over it. I was in kindergarten and I helped my mom make it. I got to hem it all by myself, which explains the 4-inch long uneven messy stitches everywhere. I didn't realize until years later that my mom went back over it with tiny stitches, but left mine on it. I still have my yellow ducky skirt safely packed away!

It depends on what you mean by the first thing I made! The first thing I made with my sewing machine was Window seat cushions for my niece! Since I made them for her I obviously don't have them! =( But they were a blast to make! And If it's the first thing I ever sewed at all! wow..I can't remember I've sewn so many things! I just started using my machine a about a year ago...but I've sewed by hand since I was really little! :)

I was in a quilting club in 5th grade, and made a pot holder that my mother still has and uses! I hand quilted it, and my stitches are so uneven :)

hhuum, I am sure I probably did some hemmimg or mending of sort... I never had formal sewing lessons... but the thing I remember sewing first was after hubby bought me a nice machine shortly after we were married, maybe in 74? mostly so I could mend his jeans... and I tried to be creative and made a toddler tie back halter top for a niece... I don't have it, and I am sure neither does she! LOL

ps.. I still don't know "how" to sew, but still try ... on a very old heavy metal Kenmore a friend gave me, since the machine hubby bought me got worn out on all the heavy denim! LOL

Well the first thing I really remember making myself, I was in the 6th grade My mom gotten bit by a spider and had just completed our Easter dresses (4 girls) .. She couldn't make her own (Matching Fabric) So my sister cut it out and I sewed.. We had been helping mom with cutting and sewing for years.
But this was my first GROWN UP project.
Mom said it is long gone..

The first thing I ever sewed was a rag quilt for my brother. I have never made anything for myself, I am always giving it all to family and friends as gifts. One of these days I will make my own! :)

The first think I ever sewed was a totebag made out of a denim & red bandana patterned cotton when I was in grade 8 in school. It was a great little bag. I won't tell you how many years ago that was, but I surely don't have it anymore.

Thanks for the wonderful giveaway!

Throw pillows for the guest bedroom...they're still on the bed after all of these years. They are offwhite with this beautiful blue Chinese toile. It's probably time for a change, but I'm so sentimental!

The first thing I remember making were Barbie clothes. They were my own design and I just used a needle and thread.

I am pretty sure the first thing I sewed was a pillow case in a home economics class I took in high school. It turned out horrible!! I still can't sew but would love to learn!!

I think the first thing I ever made was a drawstring bag with my name embroidered on it. My mom still has it in her sewing room. I think I made it when I was in the fifth grade. I took a sewing class so I would know how to do what my Mama and my grandma did when they were together! I wanted to be included! =.)

The first thing I ever made was a stuffed dog in Home Economics! Do they still teach that? It was pitiful and we got rid of it many years ago!
